Salter Harris Fracture - Elizabeth

Rehabilitation following an ankle fractured playing football

Elizabeth fractured her left fibula playing football and came to H2O Physio as she was finding it difficult to walk and experiencing a lot of pain.

  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Water Temperature: 31˚C
  • Speed: 5.0 to 9.0kph
  • Depth: 1100 down to 600mm
  • Resistance Jets: Not activated
  • Direction: Forwards, backwards and sideways
  • Number of Sessions: 6

With a passion for sport and especially football, Elizabeth was keen to get back to normal as quickly as possible. Her fractured ankle was taking its time to heal and walking was continuing to be a problem. She was unable to run and was also in quite significant pain.

For the first three sessions, the water-level was at 1100mm to give Elizabeth plenty of support whilst building up her strength and confidence. She was able to exercise pain-free and progressed well without risking further injury to her ankle.

Later in her programme, the water-level was dropped to 600mm and Elizabeth was running at a speed of 9.0kph with the resistance jets activated, making this a high-intensity workout.

We are happy to report that Elizabeth has now fully recovered and has returned to playing football.
